Designing a digital lending platform

How I turned complex lending requirements into clear user flows and cohesive digital experiences.

This project is covered by an NDA. The product name, data, and select product details have been anonymized or modified to protect confidentiality. The screens shown are based on my original design work, with changes made where necessary. This case study highlights design challenges and solutions, not sensitive business information.

Overview

Designing a unified platform

I joined an ongoing project to design a digital lending platform for a leading banking and financial services company, bringing multiple lending workflows and user roles into a single system.

As a UI & Interaction Designer, I created user flows and designed the loan sourcing and customer portal experiences. I also oversaw adjacent workflows to ensure they aligned with the overall flow and maintained a consistent interaction and visual language across the platform.

Challenges
01

Designing for multiple user roles

Customers, external, and internal users all had different needs in the lending process. The platform needed to support these roles while keeping everyone connected in a single system.

02

Creating consistency across modules

Three designers each worked on different modules. We needed to design for each user while keeping the platform's look and feel consistent.

Designs

Designing the loan sourcing experience

I translated the business requirements into a loan sourcing flow that guided users through the information needed to start a loan application. I refined the flow and interactions to make the experience easier to understand and navigate.

Designing the customer portal

I designed the customer portal to give applicants a clear view of their application, its current status, and the actions needed to move it forward.

Outcome

A lending platform built to scale

The platform shipped as a unified digital lending platform for mortgage and home loans, bringing customers and multiple internal and external users into a connected workflow. By establishing consistent interaction patterns and visual language across workflows, my work helped create a cohesive experience across the platform.

The platform has since expanded beyond mortgage and home loans to support personal loans, education loans, and credit cards.

Reflection

Designing for change, not just the current requirement

Client needs changed often, and some early requirements weren't fully defined. At first, I designed only for what was requested. Over time, I learned to design scalable solutions with the bigger picture in mind, and began proactively spotting gaps and suggesting improvements.

This was my first long-term project, and it showed me the value of clarifying expectations early, asking the right questions, and aligning design decisions with both the requirements and the overall experience.
